The Definitive Hangover Grading System

The Definitive Hangover Grading System
Grade 1
This is more of an annoying hangover than anything. You might have a slight headache and are a bit dehydrated, but for the most part you can function completely fine. By lunch you are completely back to normal.

Grade 2
A more severe headache, you’re quite dehydrated, and you’re craving greasy comfort food. This hangover makes day to day tasks like going to work noticeably more difficult, but you can still function. A solid run or workout can likely cure this hangover.

Grade 3
You're beginning to reach a level where normally straightforward daily tasks like reading a paragraph are proving to be quite difficult. You have a very strong desire to just stay in bed and try to sleep it off. You are nauseous yet don’t absolutely have to throw up. You have a pretty severe headache. There is still enough alcohol in your system that you shouldn’t drive.

Grade 4
You feel awful and will likely throw up a couple times during the hangover. There is a decent chance you had the spins before going to bed last night. Although you likely need food, you will not be able to eat anything (and keep it down) until at least mid afternoon. You have a truly pounding headache. You try your best to sleep it off. You really don’t start feeling yourself again until well into the evening.

Grade 5
This is the type of terrible, awful hangover that only happens once or twice in one’s life and is getting into dangerous territory. You might have blacked out late the night before. There is a good chance that you will never be able to drink what you had last night again because you’ll associate it with this awful feeling. You will likely swear off drinking all together that morning and actually won’t drink again for at least a week or two. You will violently throw up several times and won’t even be sober enough to clean it up yourself the first couple times. After throwing up several times there is a chance you will find yourself dry heaving with nothing coming out. You’ll have a terrible headache and lack the capacity to maintain focus enough to even watch a TV show well into the afternoon. Keeping food down is not possible until that night.
